What this tool does
This tool calculates how much a percentage-off discount saves and what the sale price comes out to, from the original price and the discount percentage. Example use case
A jacket priced at $80 is 20% off. Instead of estimating the discount in your head, entering the price and percentage here instantly shows you save $16, bringing the sale price to $64 — and if your local sales tax is 8%, the final price after tax comes to $69.12.
How the discount is calculated
The amount saved is original price × (discount % ÷ 100), and the sale price is
the original price minus that amount. If a tax rate is entered, it's applied to the discounted sale price
(not the original price), matching how most retailers calculate tax at checkout.
